Between Blackface and 2Face: A time of War and Peace

By  |

blackface calls out 2baba“There was good and evil, we choose good, why raise the time of the Most
High, ye sons of men”

They were two and later became three and the three were called ‘The
Plantashun Boiz’. Out of the three came out one of Africa’s biggest
musical export -2face, he took the stride to his new world, broke out from
the group and made fame and fortune. Is 2face truly the ‘plantation’ and
the other two the ‘boys’?

I write because I read some revelations according to BlackfaceNigeria
concerning his ex-band mate 2face. His revelation may bring revival, but
to some, it is a case of the ‘dog barks while the caravan moves on’.
Blackface tweeted that he gave the name 2face to his former band mate; but
there is nothing we have that we did not receive from someone or God, be
it talent, spiritual gifts, fame or fortune not forgetting the names we
bear. Many who did not know ‘plantashun boiz’ from the ‘plantashun Island’
may not know that Blackface was the ‘Chief Creative Officer’ even though
he be defamed, despised or forsaken. 2face was the ‘front liner’ (the
Asiwaju) and as well the voice and the face of the group. We must not
underestimate the contributions of Blackface, 2face or even Faze alone
whose high pitch background vocal spiced up their records. Together the
group jointly inspired the current Nigerian hip-hop, R n’ B and dancehall
music industry.

Blackface’s call for copyright infringements should not be viewed as
‘cheap popularity’, Blackface is set to fight his mate like the DEFENDER,
ALEXANDER the Great did against King Darius the 3rd, but I foresee the
strife will end in white flags and peace talk. Men have kids to feed.
Let’s not say he is a fool and the other is wise, let’s not induce a
negative spirit in the brethren, they know each other more than their
observers. The struggle for excellence drew the battle line and don’t be
quick to forget they both were thirsty and hungry together. My advice is;
let none of you be puffed up for one against another. None of you should
consider himself to be more honorable than the other. None of you should
position himself to be despised or loved more than the other. The zeal to
prove self-worth must not becloud the humble beginning you once shared.

Just as D’banj’s producer D.V Lee accused Olamide for stealing Dbanj’s
line, Blackface has accused ‘boy Wizkid for ‘stealing’ his song and I
hereby accuse Blackface for being inspired by Sizzler Kalonji. At the end,
everyone is guilty of something.

2Face warns that we should not trample on another man’s feet just to be
elevated and that every inflated ego must surely be deflated; But I put it
to you that “the power of forgiveness” must not be under rated. I write
not to shame you but as beloved brother, to warn you, though you have ten
thousand instructors but only few brothers and friends. Its time everyone
quits their customized attitude and be a brother to deliver one another.
Festac Town will like to see the Mallam Spicey’s collabo with the
Rocksteady’s and the 2baba’s and the Blackface’s again; That’s a sure way
to rekindle the flame of ambition in the community that bred you [Festac
Town Spirit of Music is faded]. Individuality cannot make us tall! We will
all become successful with the positive attitude. I watched your days of
beat boxing across the canal where we sipped grass and roots in the spirit
of the Festival.
I send my cares to the internet waters so when you surf through, that’s me
saying I care.

‘May the realms of ZION feel your spiritual cups, wisdom overstanding will
never be too much’

With love from Festac Town.
