House of Reps Threaten to Arrest EFCC Boss (Read Why)

The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc committee set up to investigate allegations of fraud in the management of non-oil revenue remittance by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) has threatened to issue an arrest warrant for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Ibrahim Magu, if he fails to appear before them by Tuesday to explain the collection and remittance of funds by the commission to the federal government.

John Okafor, chairman of the ad-hoc committee, while expressing his dissatisfaction over the absence of the Director Generals of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC), stated that MDAs disrespect the National Assembly by not honoring their invitation especially since it is in the course of an oversight function.

Okafor condemned the absence of the DGs as he walked out the representative of the NDLEA and NAFDAC. The DGs were, however, said to be in a meeting with the National Security Adviser but Okafor questioned whether the NSA was by law superior to the National Assembly.

The committee chairman further stated that failure of the EFCC boss to appear before the committee to give account of funds collected and remitted to the federal account, the committee will have no choice but to issue a warrant for his arrest.
