Commercial Drivers Attacks DPO and Strip Him
Commercial Bus and Taxi drivers got their revenge for all the N50, N100 notes they have reluctantly doled out to countless policemen yesterday as they took laws into their hands over the death of their colleague.
An angry set of commercial drivers attacked the Divisional Police Officer of the Aramoko Ekiti division, Anthony Okpaleye, stripping him naked over the killing of their colleague, Toyin Philips.
Their deceased colleague, Omolafe Aderiye, was said to have been killed by suspected robbers within the same area on September 25, 2015, while travelling to Lagos.
The drivers however decided to carry out their vendetta because the robbery happened a few metres away from a police checkpoint and so they blamed the police for it, claiming that the police did not respond quickly at the scene of the crime.
According to reports: “They stripped the DPO naked and destroyed two police vans.”
The deputy governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, later called on a meeting which was well attended by the Commissioner of Police, Etop James; Director of the Department of State Services, Duke Fubara, NURTW members, and other security agencies’ heads.
Dr. Olusola promised that the police would deploy more patrol teams in/within/beyond the area: “The police will also investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to book. Our government is concerned because when a life is lost, it gives the impression that Ekiti is not safe.”
