Man Kills Step Mother on New Year Day in Enugu

NigerianPoliceMenFriday Anyim, a 40-year-old man in Umuenem, Ezinesi-Oduma in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, on January 1 axed his step mother, Bennedeth Anyim, to death.

Friday axed his step mother to death following the attempts by the poor woman to intervene in a fight between two siblings in the family.

Friday was said to have engaged his elder sister, Abigail Anyim, in an argument over the sale of a water tank to enable him raise money for the purchase of a motorcycle, popularly known as Okada, for commercial purpose.

In a bid to have his way, Friday was said to have picked an axe to attack his sister but Bennedeth got in the way.

The suspect took to his heels after he found out his step mother was dead.

The Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Amaraizu said the deceased’s husband, who was in the middle of a meeting in a nearby house, raced home on hearing the news only for him to meet the wife in a pool of blood.

The suspect is a son to one of the three wives of his father, Anyim Samuel.
