Purple Rain Prince dies at 57

Gossip news site TMZ has just confirmed the death of singer Prince (full name Prince Rogers Nelson).

TMZ reports that the Academy Award winner was found dead in his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early today (US time) .

His Original Score of Purple Rain earned the act global reputation which earned him two Grammy awards and an Academy Award. Purple rain is also the album which won victory over Michael Jackson’s Thriller at the American Music awards, for Best Rock/Pop Album, in 1984.

He went on to drop many more hit songs, and won seven Grammy Awards while selling over 100 million records.

On April 15, the ‘Cream’ singer had a medical emergency and was treated for flu, but he continued with a concert the following day and assured his fans that he was okay.

The multi-award winning star was married twice – first to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia which ended in 2000, and then to Manuela Testolini whom he split up with in 2006.

He was 57.
